USA: October 11, 2001

WASHINGTON - An energy statistics advisory committee to the Energy Information Administration will meet Oct 25-26 to discuss natural gas data.

The committee, which is affiliated with the American Statistical Association, offers advice to the EIA on how to improve the large amounts of energy data gathered by the agency for oil, natural gas, coal, electricity and alternative fuels.

The committee said in a Federal Register notice published yesterday that the October meeting would include discussion of ways to re-estimate U.S. natural gas production data and options to obtain future data measuring consumption by energy-use sector.

The meeting will also discuss two recent EIA reports to members of the U.S. Senate on air pollution by electric power plants.

The advisory panel will meet at the U.S. Energy Department headquarters in Washington.
