Tyson Foods discussing resolution of Clean Water case
Date: 27-Dec-01
Country: USA
Tyson said in its annual report that it has been advised that the U.S. Attorney's office in the Western District of Missouri plans to seek an indictment for alleged environmental violations at its Sedalia, Missouri, facility.
"The company is presently discussing the possible resolution of this matter," it said in the annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Tyson said it could not yet determine the likelihood of an unfavorable outcome nor the amount of any liability.
The filing did not provide more details about the case and a spokesman for the Springdale, Arkansas-based company did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Last week, the company and some of its current and former employees were indicted on charges of conspiracy to smuggle illegal immigrants to work at its U.S. plants. Tyson denied the charges.
Tyson shares closed this week at $11.09 on the New York Stock Exchange.
