Scotland warned to brace for arctic weather

Strong winds and heavy snow showers were also forecast for northern England on Friday.
"An intense deepening of a low pressure system moving south east from Iceland will bring very cold air with it," a Met Office forecaster told Reuters.
Accompanying the system would be storm force winds, with rain turning to snow and blizzard conditions during the course of Friday.
The Met Office warned that driving conditions in Scotland would be very hazardous.
"People who are out and about are advised to get indoors and around a cozy fire," the Met Office said.
The arctic conditions, which were expected to dissipate by the weekend, would be restricted to northern parts of the UK.
"People in the south east of England who are hoping for snow will be disappointed," the forecaster added.
