Date: 25-Feb-02
Country: GERMANY

Day ahead prices fell by nearly one euro in baseload to 22.9-23.1 euros and just under three euros in peakload to 27.2-27.3 euros on the day.

"The weather's continuing in a similar way - windy but warm for the time of year - so it looks like the trend will go on with fairly low prices," one trader said.

News that the 806-megawatt Brunsbuettel nuclear reactor in northern Germany, which was switched off on Monday for unscheduled repairwork, will probably be out for several weeks, were shrugged off, he added.

The LPX cleared day ahead baseload at 21.76 euros and peakload at 24.21 euros, much reduced from the 25.7 euros and 31.58 euros seen the day before.

The coming weekend traded at 17.25 euros, down from 18.6 euros on Wednesday.

Week ahead prices also dived by more than two euros in peakload at 29.7-29.8 euros and up to 1.5 euros in baseload, where the position ended at 22.25-22.5 euros.

March prices shed around 0.3-0.5 euros in both base and peakload, closing at 23.1-23.2 euros and 32-32.2 euros respectively.

Curve prices were steady to slightly softer, but the baseload price was now firmly established below previous support of 23 euros, traders said.

The position finished at 22.8-22.9 euros and peakload at 32.6-32.8 euros.

Weather forecasts predicted stable temperatures around two to five degrees Celsius in the period up to Monday, with heavy rain, snow and wind.
