The 65,105 dwt Amorgos ran aground off Kenting, a coral reserve on Taiwan's southern tip, in January 2001, leaking hundred tonnes of oil that had spread across an area of some 24 acres (10 hectares).
The cabinet-level Environmental Protection Administration said the amount was to compensate expenses in the mop-up, and the agency was still in talks to seek some T$900 million in its damage to the ecology and economy.
