Reuters German household power bills up 7 pct yr/yr - VDEW

Date: 30-Apr-02
Country: GERMANY

A three-people household's monthly bill in April averaged 44.6 euros, nearly three euros up from levels a year ago, but still 3.6 euros below levels in 1999 prior to full market liberalisation.

The total share of state taxes and fees accounted for 41 percent, of 18.2 euros.

In 1999, it accounted for 30 percent, or 14.4 euros.

Within the total year-on-year increase, the cost of generation, transport and marketing amounted to 26.4 euros, which was up five percent or 1.35 euros compared to a year earlier.

VDEW said this was mostly due to higher generation costs.

It added the state share of 1.5 euros within the total increase had risen by eight percent.

The main tax components are the so-called eco-tax on fuel use, subsidies for renewable energy under the relevant law (EEG), and subsidies for combined heat and power cogeneration (under the KWK law).
