GERMANY: August 20, 2002

ZURICH - Swiss industrial firm Sulzer said yesterday it has met a key development goal with 400 of it Hexis fuel cells, which provide heat and power to single family homes, now under contract to be tested.

Its Sulzer Hexis unit has signed a deal with natural gas supplier Gasverbund Mittelland AG, which calls for 30 systems to be made available for testing in Swiss housholds by the end of 2003, enabling Sulzer to reach its 400-cell target.

Market launch of the cell is scheduled by 2004 or 2005.
