Date: 05-Sep-02
Country: ITALY
The total installed capacity of the nine plants, comprising 169 turbines, will be 141 megawatts, a company spokesman told Reuters.
In a statement, the group said the wind farms would be built on the two southern Italian islands of Sicily and Sardegna and the southern regions of Basilicata and Molise.
Enel did not reveal the cost of the total operation nor give specific dates for commissioning but said the wind plants themselves cost 89 million euros ($88.38 million).
In 2001, Greenpower generated over 9.6 billion kWh of energy mostly at hydro and geothermal plants, but with wind-generated electricity growing in importance.
