Gas to be 28 pct of EU-15's energy by '20 - industry

Total gas demand in the 15-country bloc was 338 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) in 2001, Eurogas said in its annual report. That would rise to 436 MTOE by 2010 and 475 MTOE in 2020.
The figures do not take into account the likely enlargement of the EU to include new members.
Oil is the EU's main energy source, accounting for 40 percent of the bloc's needs. Solid fossil fuels and nuclear power each have a share of around 15 percent, Eurogas said.
