Reuters South Korea tankers crash, spill 200,000 tonnes of oil

Date: 14-May-03
Country: SOUTH KOREA

Tides were speeding the spread of the leak, the official at the Pusan National Maritime Police station told Reuters.

An estimated 200,000 tonnes of fuel oil had already leaked into waters in the nearby pier and beach, despite efforts by marine police to contain the spill. No casualties were reported.

Pusan suffered a big oil spill in 1997 when a tanker sank, damaging nearby fish farms and dealing a big blow to fishermen.
