Valero Cleans N.J. Pools, Cars After Oil Cloud

No one was injured during the emission and the release posed no threat to health or safety, Valero said.
"We are detailing cars and power washing patios and cleaning pools where necessary," the company said in an email.
"The material is tar-like and non-toxic and can be removed with baby oil (much like the tar people experience at the beach)," the company added.
It costs about US$100 to clean a car which has been covered by the tar, said Barry McGlincy, manager at Your Choice Car Wash in Paulsboro where detailers hired by Valero are cleaning cars.
"It probably takes half an hour to 45 minutes," said McGlincy, who has cleaned cars after several refinery emissions over the past 15 years. "It's just inconvenient, it's not damaging the car."
Valero's Paulsboro refinery has total feedstock throughput capacity of about 195,000 barrels per day, according to the company website.
