Magnitude 6.4 Quake Near Russia's Kuril Islands

US: July 25, 2008


WASHINGTON - A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Russia's Kuril Islands in the northern Pacific, the US Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.


The quake was centered 66 miles (106 km) east-northeast of Severo-Kuril'sk and hit at 0143 GMT on Thursday. USGS said it was at a depth of 21.7 miles (35 km). There was no tsunami warning issued.
