India's environment ministry has said it has found "serious violations" of green laws in Vedanta's existing alumina refinery in eastern India.

In a letter to the company dated Aug 31, the ministry also asked the London-listed miner to explain why the environment clearance given to its one million tonnes-a-year plant should not be revoked.
