Dhaka, a city of about 10 million people, faces an acute water crisis due to over-consumpution and declining ground water level due to deep tubewells for irrigation. Dhaka's water supply authority has a capacity to supply 1.27 billion litres of water per day against 1.6 billion litres for residents of the capital.
