A prairie dog lies flat on the pavement to try to cool off on a Tokyo street August 1, 2002 as temperatures soared to 35.6 degrees celsius in a summer heat wave. Scorching weather has dominated in most of Japan this summer, the Japan Meteorological Agency said yesterday.
