A young woman takes part in a circus in the main square in Mexico City August 8, 2002. Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has set up a circus in the city's main plaza and invited the poor to attend free of charge, but he has not been able to tame critics who accuse him of low rent populism. Critics charge that the circus is a cheap way of currying favor and distracting voters from the rampant crime, pollution and other woes plaguing the sprawling metropolis of 18 million people, about half of whom live in the federal district under Lopez Obrador's jurisdiction.
