What's The Difference Between Direct Mail & "Junk" Mail?

Every year over a third of all direct mail goes straight in the bin. Last year, over 78,000 tonnes of direct mail ended up in landfill.

But not all direct mail is "Junk" mail. Many UK charities use direct mail to generate much needed awareness and funds for their causes. Direct mail also enables the British public to purchase £25 billion worth of goods and services every year.

One man's junk is also another man's treasure. If you are happy to receive direct mail but want to turn it a shade greener, simply recycle these letters and leaflets with your newspapers. That way, recyclers can turn your unwanted mail into new paper products.

And if we all did that, it would make a big difference.

A 78,000 tonne difference.

PLANET ARK'S UK CAMPAIGNS

In addition to our 'World Environment News' service, Planet Ark runs a number of environmental campaigns in Australia.
