Next time you’re on the bus or the train to work, take a look around at your fellow passengers, how many have a disposable cup in their hands? Now multiply that by all the commuters on all the travel routes everyday across Australia. It begins to get a little mind-boggling.

As well as being resource intensive to produce these cups and their lids, they also present a range of disposal issues. It can be confusing for consumers to understand terms such as degradable, biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. And there are no standards in relation to the use of these terms. Recyclability of coffee cups is one of the most controversial issue in industry at the moment. So let’s be realistic, the vast majority of these cup are headed for landfill.
