Climate activist and eco-rockstar Greta Thunberg recently received the first Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity, which recognises individuals or groups around the world whose contributions towards mitigation and adaptation to climate change have considerably stand out .

The prize money is a whooping 1M euros (around 1.6 M AUD) and Greta will be donating all of it to "different organizations and projects who are working to help people on the frontlines affected by the climate crisis and ecological crisis, especially in the Global South."

She added that the money would also “help organizations and projects who are fighting for a sustainable world and who are fighting to defend nature and the natural world.”

According to her statement shared on her multiple social media channels, she’ll start the allocation of the funds by donating €100,000 to the SOS Amazonia Campaign to tackle COVID-19 in the Amazon and another €100,000 to the Stop Ecocide Foundation to support their work to make ecocide an international crime.

This is not the first time that Greta has donated prize money to the cause, early this year, she was also awarded $100,000 for her activist by Human Act which was donated through Greta’s foundation to UNICEF, in order to support its efforts addressing the impacts and consequences of COVID-19 on children.
