The Australasian Waste & Recycling Expo (AWRE) takes place in Sydney from August 24-25, offering two days of seminars, networking, and displays, presenting ideas and opportunities for Australia’s waste and recycling community. As reported in the National Waste Report 2020, Australia’s three waste streams in 2018-19 contributed 12.6 million tonnes of council waste, 21.9 million tonnes of commercial & industrial waste, and 27 million tonnes of construction & demolition waste.

Australians are looking to the waste and recycling industry to drive positive change towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. AWRE provides an opportunity for government departments, waste and recycling professionals, suppliers/service providers, public sector bodies and special interest groups to connect and share ideas.

The expo will showcase innovative products and sustainable solutions to collect, process and recycle waste more effectively. Focus areas include machinery and equipment, software and services, bins, vehicles, and food and organics.

A Seminar Program will focus on the latest challenges, developments, strategies, and policies which are shaping Australasia's waste and recycling industry. Planet Ark’s Australian Circular Economy Hub will be hosting a session on Australia’s transition to a circular economy entitled Retaining Value in The Transition to a Circular Economy.

This session will invite experts to share insights into the opportunities that exist for recovered materials to make their way into design, increasing materials value, increasing savings, and reducing virgin material consumption.

The need to keep products and materials in use through material recovery is more acute than ever and critical to the transition to a circular economy in Australia. Dr Nicole Garofano, Head of Circular Economy Development at Planet Ark, will be joined by Veena Sahajwalla from the Centre for Sustainable Materials Research & Technology at UNSW to discuss this important topic. The expo is a business event open to those who work in the waste, recycling, and resource recovery sector along with any students enrolled in a relevant course (tertiary level).
