The business case for recycling at work is clear, but taking the necessary first steps towards reducing waste to landfill can be complicated. Find out how the Bin Trim program makes it easier.

A survey* by Planet Ark, showed that 85% of workplaces want to do more for the environment. Reducing the amount of waste going to landfill is not just good for the planet, but it is good for business as well.

To understand how you can reduce waste going to landfill (and save money while at it!), the first order of business must be to undertake a waste assessment so that you know where you stand. This in itself, can seem overwhelming if you aren’t aware of the support available.

The Bin Trim Program by the NSW EPA, provides free tools for businesses on their journey to save money and reduce waste. They have developed a step by step guide on how to do this, however, this could still be a little challenging for those who are either super busy with everyday operations or just don’t know where to begin.

To overcome this barrier, NSW businesses with up to 400 staff now have free access to professional assessors. While you stay on top of the day-to-day operations of your business, the assessor will:

    ·     Visit your business to take your details and register you in the Bin Trim program.

    ·     Review your business waste.

    ·     Help you get started by working with you to create a waste reduction action plan.

    ·     Assess if your business is eligible for a rebate to help out with buying equipment.

    ·     Provide practical support and advice to help your business put your plan into action.

All these services are free of charge and funded by the NSW Government. Bin Trim also offers businesses a 50% rebate on recycling equipment. With all these perks, minimising waste and maximising recycling never made more sense.
